Interior design...it's a personal thing

I've been a professional interior designer for over 30 years. Native of Chicago, graduate of St. Norbert's (WI), educated at the University of Wisconsin and the Art Institute of Chicago, active member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

I really enjoy what I do. Where and how we live reflect who we are, as well as who we were the day the trendy goldenrod refrigerator was delivered.

So, to say that interior design is a "matter of taste" is an understatement. It's a matter so personal that an old fridge can have sentimental value.

Interior design involves letting go of the old to make way for something new. You may want to update your home for a growing family, completely remodel now that the kids are out of college, or now that you're retired, or build and furnish the home of your dreams. My job is to interpret your vision of who you are now, at this stage of your life, while respecting your past.

The fact that you're here means that you must be ready for a change. Good for you! Here's how I can help:

• Meet with you to talk through your ideas, show you my portfolio and studio, and prepare an interior design plan and a cost estimate.

• Source everything you'll need: flooring - carpet, rugs, hardwoods, stone, tile; paint, decorative painting; custom kitchens and bathrooms - appliances, cabinetry, countertops, fixtures; quality indoor and outdoor furniture; home accessories; home fabrics; window treatments; custom lighting; and custom-designed architectural elements. I keep a complete and current inventory of samples and catalogs in my showroom.

• Hire and oversee contractors. And I hire the best.

• Travel for buying trips and negotiate purchases.

• Encourage you to let go of the old goldenrod fridge.
